Satellite Applications Catapult Roundtable - DAY 1

ExCeL London, South Gallery Meeting Room 20 - March 4th, 11:00-12:00

Digital Transport -
Satellites and the Future of Transport

Sponsored By

Connectivity That Changes Everything

Transport is undergoing a fundamental shift, from infrastructure‑heavy systems to intelligent, connected, data‑driven networks. This roundtable aims to bring together national transport authorities, infrastructure operators, OEMs, emergency services, mobility innovators and leading satellite communication providers to explore how satellite‑enabled connectivity can modernise the UK's transport ecosystem.

As next‑generation satcom unlocks resilient, seamless, always‑on coverage, new possibilities emerge: “digital roads” with minimal roadside infrastructure, advanced rail connectivity, real‑time fleet intelligence, and the foundations for safe, efficient, autonomous mobility. This closed‑door session will examine the technology, policy, partnership and investment models needed to deliver future‑ready transport systems and eliminate the digital dead zones that constrain progress today.

What Is Going To Be Covered:

Roundtable agenda

PLEASE NOTE: This session will be held off the show floor, in the South Gallery Meeting Room 20.

Objective:
To explore how ubiquitous connectivity can transform transport infrastructure and services, and to foster collaboration between innovators and public-sector stakeholders. By convening policymakers, infrastructure operators, and satellite solution providers, the roundtable will highlight how next-generation connectivity enables “digital” or “naked” roads (minimal roadside infrastructure with information delivered in-car) and solves connectivity challenges on transport networks (roads, rail, and beyond). Ultimately, the session aims to spark partnerships and initiatives that leverage satellite communication for more efficient, autonomous, and user-centric transport systems.

Roundtable Synopsis
Examining how always-on connectivity enables digital transport and seamless on-the-move communications. We’ll discuss implications for highways, rail, emergency fleets, and a future of shared autonomous vehicles. Leaders from government (DfT), national infrastructure (National Highways, Network Rail), and cutting-edge satellite firms will debate how direct satellite-to-device links can slash infrastructure costs, eliminate coverage dead zones, and revolutionise travel. The session will spark new collaborations between innovators and decision-makers to drive these concepts forward.

Who will be attending the roundtable
