Space Data: Intelligence That Powers the New Economy

Space data is no longer a specialist tool.

It’s becoming the operating system for modern industry. From finance and infrastructure to telecoms, agriculture and climate resilience, organisations are using EO, AI and real‑time intelligence to make faster, smarter, lower‑risk decisions.

This two‑day conference brings together global providers, policymakers, end‑users and innovators to define how space data delivers commercial performance at planetary scale.

Introduction from the Innovate UK GeoAI Festival organisers : Innovate UK Business Connect

The Government’s response to The Space Economy: Act Now or Lose Out was recently published highlighting how UK policy is enabling innovation where earth observation (EO) and artificial intelligence (AI) converge to accelerate economic growth and national resilience.

Earth observation (EO) and artificial intelligence (AI) are changing how we see and manage the world, from infrastructure and cities to climate and nature. This session offers a strategic look at what happens when location aware insight becomes part of everyday decision making. We will explore how spatial intelligence can guide investment, support resilience and unlock new value across public and private sectors.

A practical discussion on emerging GeoAI capabilities, from autonomous and agentic systems to multimodal fusion and natural language interfaces, the data and cloud foundations that enable them, and where the strongest opportunities sit across public and commercial use cases.

Satellite-based geospatial data, combined with advances in artificial intelligence, is transforming how organisations understand risk, build resilience, and unlock new commercial opportunities across the economy. From climate and nature recovery to finance, agriculture, and utilities, these technologies are moving rapidly from experimental pilots to operational, decision grade services.

This Tech Showcase and Panel Discussion brings together three leading organisations operating at the intersection of satellite geospatial solutions and AI. Through real-world use cases and expert discussion, the session will explore how these technologies are being deployed today, the value they are delivering, and the journey ahead to scale impact across multiple sectors.

The next wave of GeoAI adoption will be driven not by more data, but by AI-ready, decision-grade Earth Observation. This presentation will examine why scalable GeoAI depends less on better algorithms and more on solving friction in data readiness, usability, and productization—and what that means for building products around real end-user needs. Moving from pilots to impact requires addressing structural bottlenecks as much as technical ones.

GeoAI is advancing at a remarkable speed. Yet the adoption of its full potential, maximising impact across public and private sectors, still lags. While we strive to keep pace with AI, geospatial and location data, and explore new models, agents, and applications, the hardest questions are no longer purely technical. They are questions of purpose, governance, trust, adaptability, and scalability.

Over three evenings at the Royal Society in London, a diverse group of leaders from government, finance, defence, academia, startups, and intergovernmental organisations explored what it would take to move from data to planetary intelligence.

This report distils those discussions into a shared agenda: starting with use-case–driven thinking; fostering partnerships not just in execution but in innovation, governance, and incentives; addressing the digital and skills divide; embedding robust controls in AI; and recognising the responsibility of the geospatial community to shape the conversation beyond the technical layer.

At this launch session, a panel drawn from the salons will reflect on the findings, debate priorities for action, and engage the wider community on how to position the UK as a global leader in trusted, responsible, and transparent GeoAI.

Earth Observation and Artificial Intelligence are reshaping sectors from farming to finance, but real impact only happens when end users can apply them easily and at scale. This session brings public sector and industry users together for a grounded discussion on where GeoAI is already delivering measurable value today, which problems are most urgent, what “good” looks like in practice, and what needs to change to move from pilots to widespread adoption. We will explore how GeoAI is driving new business models and smarter decisions, and what users need from providers, investors and government to unlock its full value.

The top teams of the Innovate UK GeoAI Festival cohort pitch their novel solutions to real-world challenges set by Innovate UK and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) for the chance to win tailored Commercialisation Credits delivered by SAC’s Space Commercialisation Engine valued at up to £80k per winning team.

As part of this programme, each team will have participated in the accompanying Sprint Event and 6-week prototype development and pitch training sessions delivered by Innovate UK and partners between January and March 2026. The solutions you will hear about are expected to utilise foundation models, Agentic AI, Geo embeddings, multimodal AI, Natural Language Processing and/or large language models (LLM) in answer to these challenges:

  • Harnessing GeoAI for a Resilient and Sustainable Agri-Food System
  • Next-Gen Spatial Planning: GeoAI Solutions for Land, Ocean, and Climate
  • Unlocking Nature-Based Markets with EO & AI

Today, around four fifths of earth observation revenue still comes from defence and government, even though the potential commercial market across utilities, insurance, agriculture, energy and finance should be far larger. This panel explores the defence paradox, how defence budgets have enabled powerful satellite and GeoAI capability while locking many providers into tasking driven architectures, delivery models and licences that do not scale to thousands of business users. We will ask what needs to change in system design, automation and commercial strategy so that continuous, AI driven earth observation could become an operating input for banks, insurers, utilities and supply chains.

As demand grows for trusted spatial insight, the Earth Observation Data Hub is emerging as a key part of the UK data and AI infrastructure. This session will set out the vision behind EODH, the data it provides, and how it connects with cloud and analytics tools to support GeoAI use cases. We will discuss how organisations can use the hub to prototype new services, share workflows and scale solutions, helping turn earth observation from a specialist resource into an everyday decision tool.
